Why oh Why did my Macbook Die?
Having had my trusty old Macbook stolen, I was forced to buy a new one around 18 months ago. As usual, I bought what was then the top-of-the-range, in the hope that it would last the longest. Hah!!!!!!!!
Macbook Pro, 17 inch, 2.16 Ghz Intel Core Duo with 2 Gig of Ram.
I have had Macs in the past and always found them reliable, trustworthy and almost indestructible. This one is a piece of shit. So far, it has overheated to the point where I can't touch the case, given me an electric shock and consistently got slower and slower with every passing software update. The first firmware update caused the thing to go into anaphylactic shock, which required the one-week-long attention of my local Macintish service center. Maintronic in Vallauris if you are interested. Great service and wonderful staff - take it from me, that is a rarity in France
Since that nearly fatal firmware update, I have had to have:
- 2 new keyboards after the keys started popping out
- 1 new case
- 2 new batteries - the last one expanded to twice it's normal size causing the case to warp - again!
- 1 new screen
- 1 new motherboard after the first one melted
- 1 new CD drive after warping
At present, I am waiting to see if Apple will replace the current keyboard and case free of charge since they are both warped and awkward to use. On top of that, CDs get stuck in the drive, I am scared to touch the case if I have my feet on the floor and I am sick to death of re-booting when it slooooows to a crawl.
Overheating seems to be the main issue, and when I try some professional video editing, I must dig deep into my patience reserves. Just changing file formats on one video is enough to lock the entire thing up for an hour and I am now thinking,
"I might has well have bought a fuckin' windows PC!"
One of the uses I wish to put this to is to transfer videos from my Sony Handycam, and it just isn't cutting it. Please, please Mr. Apple fix the problems or I will have to end up going back to a PC * shudder * I use it for work, and I hate the new IMacs - If they are as unreliable and poorly built as this thing, I just cannot bring myself to buy one. Sure, they are pretty, but absolutely not a tool. I don't want it to look pretty - I want it to work!
It seems I am not the only one to be experiencing issues and some one has gone to the trouble of setting up a website specifically for people to share their issues - Apple defects Wiki

Darn! That was aweful, it hasn’t reach a merely two years. It was a total waste of money.I wonder why your Macbook crushed that fast?
I have no idea. One of my friends thinks it is because of the ban on lead in computer components introduced a while ago – he has had similar issues with his HP laptop. Either way – I am not a happy bunny
