News from around the world
News. It sounds important. NEWS! Like it means something. What does it actually mean nowadays. With everyone reporting the news seemingly having an agenda of some kind, not a lot actually. I have got to the point where I automatically dis-believe almost anything I read in the "News."
For my job, I spend a lot of time looking for news to report on, and I come across all sorts of weird stuff that apparently qualifies as news. So, this is a selection of news stories. Some more serious than others, but....
The AFP (along with every other news source on the 'net) reports on the theft of 3,000 blank British passports.
Hijackers made off with boxes of blank British passports worth a fortune on the black market in a raid on a delivery van, police said Tuesday, in the latest blow to the government's record on security.Detectives said the 24 boxes of about 3,000 passports and visa documents, destined for British embassies around the world, were worth some 2.5 million pounds (five million dollars, 3.2 million euros).
Which all goes to show that all this anti-terrorist crap and biometric passports is nothing more than big brother bullshit.
Speaking of bullshit, the Chinese president, Hu Jintao wants to keep politics out of the olympic games. lol How long since the olympic games was anything other than politics? I stopped watching after Boris Becker paid to buy his medal. professional athletes ! Good grief. Money money money and politics.
Chinese President Hu Jintao appealed Friday to keep politics out of the Olympics, trying to deflect international criticism one week before an event that has put the spotlight on Beijing's behaviour at home and abroad. The run-up to the Olympics, which Beijing hopes will be a showcase for its rising global power, has been marred by a series of controversies -- the latest when China backtracked on Internet freedoms for the visiting foreign press.
Mukesh Ambani's monstrosity Antilla, is continuing apace. Building the world's most expensive house with daddy's money within sight of the biggest slum in Asia in Bombay. It's a great view though.
Mukesh Ambani’s $2 billion private residence, “Antilla,” is progressing and Forbes have released some mock-ups of the interior, courtesy of Hirsch Bedner Associates.
Despite the fact that there is apparently no such thing as global warming, record temperatures have shut a Canadian national Park in the Arctic.
A major national park in Canada's Arctic has been largely closed after record high temperatures caused flooding that washed away hiking trails and forced the evacuation of tourists, an official said on Friday.
How stupid do the governments think we are? No global warming, just cyclical?

Where do I start without sounding like a suck up?
It’s so refreshing to hear someone say they DON’T trust everything (or anything) they see/hear on the media. For years I’ve been a lone proponent trying to convert friends and family into a way of thinking that involves a little more scrutiny.
Kudos to you on this post and I hope a few people hear what you’re saying.
Nice Work
Drew
lol
Thanks – the whole thing pisses me off, but what can you do?
