Most Expensive Stuff – Ridiculously Over-priced Toys

60

I couldn’t think of a better way of saying it, so “stuff,” it is. The most expensive things? Either way, this is a compilation of most expensive stuff I have come across recently. The consumer goods are all in-production and available to buy. No esoteric vintage, gold-plated speculums here. These are also available for private ownership. I am sure a US aircraft carrier could be considered one of the “most expensive,” things so I have discounted stuff like that. They are in no particular order, although I have left the most expensive “thing,” to last.

Most expensive motorcycle

The Ecosse Moto Works’ Limited Edition Titanium – $275,000

World's most expensive motorcycle

World's most expensive bike

Moto Works' Titanium Ecosse

$275,000 Bike

$275,000 Bike

Yes, you read correctly. Two hundred and seventy-five grand – for a bike :)

The world’s most expensive motorcycles.

Most expensive motor car

I will just deal with cars currently on the market, although some vintage cars are fetching silly prices. The Bugatti Veyron 16.4  – $1,192,000

World's most expensive car

World's most expensive car

That certainly is a pretty car, but more than a million dollars for a car? Holy crap! Not only is it the most expensive car in production, it is also the second-fastest car in the world. 265 mph.

265 mph Bugatti Veyron

If you have a thing for cars, here are some useful links:

Most expensive cellular phone

The GOLDVISH “Le Millions” – $1,200,000

Goldvish Le Millions cellphone

Goldvish Le Millions cellphone

If you though $1 million plus for a car was expensive, this thing makes the Bugatti Veyron look decidedly cheap. Apart from the 120 carats of diamonds set in white gold, a pretty ordinary phone. That makes phone calls. It is not as though you get your own private cellular network or anything. Exclusively for those with more money than sense. At least you can scare yourself shitless with the car. This……… Why?

GOLDVISH

Most expensive laptop computer

The Bentley Ego – $20,000

Bentley Ego Laptop

Bentley Ego Laptop

Styled to look like a purse, the Bentley Ego is a fairly pathetic computer with the handle from a Bentley motor car for carrying. Hard to imagine a more worthless piece of junk, although I am sure they sold a few – The Twenty Thousand Dollar Purse

The Most Expensive Private Jet

The Bombardier Global Express XRS ultra-long-range business jet – $44,000,000

Bombadier Global Express XRS

Bombardier Global Express XRS

Now we’re talking. Serious money. Tavel in luxurious comfort – at a price.

Global Express Cockpit

Global Express Cockpit

Global Express Interior

Global Express Interior

I also have to add the private Airbus 340-600 -that was recently purchased by Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal – price $319,000,000 – he reputedly paid Edése Doret Industrial design at least $150,000,000 to fit out the interior in a style befitting the owner of a country. You can’t really call this a normal production toy, but Airbus think there is a market for between 3 and 5 of these private versions. These are a few shots of the proposed interior.

Soft drinks only in the bar?

Most expensive private yacht

Luxury Yacht "A"

Luxury Yacht

Rather difficult to be certain in this category. Most private yachts are a one-off, built to order. No certainties, but this one is definitely a contender for the most expensive. Designed by Phillipe Starck, and painstakingly tested and built to the most exacting specification, the Sigma SF-99 or “A” is my bet. $300,000,000? ish

Most expensive private island

Vatu Vara in Fiji – $40,000,000

Vatu Vara Island

Vatu Vara Island

Vatu Vara island is actually for sale.

Nicknamed Hat Island for obvious reasons, the island has been for sale for some time now. Or perhaps the credit crunch is affecting even these hallowed markets? There is a good guide to private islands here.

After all these, I also found a few silly “Most expensive things.” Here they are:

Most expensive bikini – $30,000,000

Diamond bikini

Diamond bikini bottom

The top

The top

The full bikini

The full bikini

Excuse me if I overdid that, but I am sure you understand…..over 150 carats of D Flawless diamonds, including a 51 carat D Flawless Pear Shape, a 30 carat D Flawless Emerald Cut, a pair of 15 carat D Flawless Rounds and a pair of 8 carat D Flawless Pear Shapes all set in platinum make this one of the silliest things ever created.

Most expensive Hamburger – $99.00

The $99 hamburger.

The $99 hamburger

Ninety nine bucks for a burger? DB Bistro Moderne sell their “Burger Royale for this. Why?………

OK, enough silly ones. If there is anything I learned from looking at the “most expensive whatever,” it is that having access to vast amounts of money in no way guarantees taste. This last one is a perfect example. Mukesh Ambani is building,

The World’s most expensive home – $2,000,000,000

Antilla - Mumbai

Antilla - Mumbai

Now, there are some who would say that building a 2 billion dollar home within sight of the largest slum in Asia was the height of bad taste. And I would have to agree with them. But when you inherited this much money – who cares? :)

That’s some mighty expensive items there Mark!! Guess I can’t understand even for folks with that kind of money to burn, that material items are more important than their own salvation? It would seem that knowing that you can have life even after death here on earth, would mean more than anything you could buy! But I guess if a person is blinded to knowing about Christ and what He done on the cross, then money and riches are #1 in their life.

I just hope that people with this kind of money are open to hearing the Word of God at some point and learn that having this kind of money is garbage compared the knowing about life everlasting through Christ who died for their sins.

And I don’t even know why I went into all that, I am an Internet & Affiliate marketer myself. But I will not have money like that ever, and even if I started making money sush as this, I would live on what I needed, and give away the rest of it. Because it is more important to know I am saved and will live forever with my Lord and saviour, than to have a small amount of satisfaction here and end up burning forever in hell for not knowing or turning my back on the One who saved me.

Thanks and may God bless,
James

Wow – Mark! If you really knew what your words say about YOU, chances are you’d choose your words more wisely. And what are you doing to help your fellow man other than criticize?

Seolyk @ 5:42 pm #

Mark,

When the vatican was originally built, people were illiterate. The best way to teach them about the gospel was to commission paintings and sculptures. If by chance you’re thinking ‘oh, why didnt they just teach them to read?’ because books were equally as expensive at that point in time and not everyone could read them at once.

Mark McCullagh @ 11:32 pm #

Entertaining post. Amazing the crap the the ultra-rich can buy! Enough is just never enough!

Regarding your comment about Christians – true followers of Christ are not hypocrites – however, the practice of Christianity cannot escape the influence of humans, who are, at time, hypocrites.

A great little thread, It has brightened a dull day.

As for the $99 hamburger it looks too big to eat any way so would in honesty be purchased, like all the other stuff, as a gesture o show rich someone is.

Nice work Mark u nailed it. Only, you left out all the others religions. I mean, as humans what are we without religion. Gods, living, breathing Gods. Our lives are what we make of them. Live free, live without guilt and live to love…

Science and technology have almost perfected solar cells that will give the common man very cheap electricity. We have carbon fiber and advanced polymer composites to build extremely light, fuel efficient cars. We have GPS and new fast, smooth rail technologies, when combined with computer smarts can solve major transportation problems in environmentally and people friendly ways (bar cars instead of gridlock) We have super insulation available. We have GMO’ed veggies growing bug free in compost enriched soil. We have solar heated homes. we have solar water distillation. We have geo-thermal means to heat homes. We have gardening technology to feed ourselves. We have ’super magnet’ wind driven generators. We have computer access to the knowledge treasures of the world. We have hybrid, battery/electric, plug in vehicles. We have solar refrigeration (see web) We have aquaculture techniques to grow our own fish locally. We have wireless solar powered cell phones. We have solar powered laptop computers. We have the most beautiful, healthy, sexy, fruitful, educated (albeit poorly yet) intelligent women of all time. For reasons only a “God” can understand, we built 1930’s McMansions until our country bankrupted, we demand 1930’s sheet metal and grease pit engineered 620 hp, 8 mpg, 230 mph Corvettes for our degrading highways, We demand greasy, expensive unhealthy fast foods. We demand huge wide screen TV’s and watch very poor programming on them. We pummel the shit out of people in oil rich countries for their wealth and waste our mot precious resources doing it. We drive 1930’s sheet metal technology gasoline cars with poor mileage. We prepare our daughters to live as Barbie doll sex objects in McMansions we cannot afford with Princes that don’t exist. We watch porn for hours. We spend much time drunk and incapable of intelligent thought. We slave far too many hours for very small gains. We spend huge amounts on the military to support an “Empire” notion that history shows is trickery for the wealthy to fill their pockets, We can kill all the population of the world ten times over, with our bombs, but we can’t organize fair world trade and a good monetary standard. We have failed to break away from the ancient Jewish standard of the seven day week with five days of work, a nonsensical cult notion based on agricultural practices of the past! We have a a lot of progress to be made, but mostly we have to adapt what we already know to our outdated lifestyles. perhaps this paradigm shift will be forced by the impending Great Depression. The last one certainly brought a lot of good to America. As one great thinker of our time said, “render unto Cesar that which is his” Let the rich and foolish have what they can pay for, and get on with the task at hand. We have greater things to do – Last Call America, Last Call!

Good post m8. To me, these ridiculous objects of so called ‘desire’ highlight the fact that money and wealth are grossly overrated. That phone is hideous and would probably taste as bad as that totally unethical hamburger. I hope the people who inhabit that Mumbai slum rise up and evict the snobs from the 2 billion building, forcing them to go and live like they have all their lives!

Steve @ 2:23 pm #

I think your mixing Christianity with religion….

Theres a big difference. Followers of Christ can be Christian without being Religious.

And I’d be willing to bet you if Christ was to come to earth and walk around today, he’d be walking the streets ministering rather than hanging out in the Religious capitals of the world.

Mark, I have also been to the vatican and thought exactly the same thing. The main bit is the biggest room I have ever seen in my life. It’s like an aircraft hanger but covered in marble and gold and mahogany. Apparently it’s designed to impress people into believing only a God could create something that awe inspiring.

And Beautifuldreamer, you are a hypocrit. Not only were you criticizing Mark for criticizing, Mark was rebutting James’ criticism of pretty much every non-christian. I agree with James that greedy people are arseholes but I also don’t think religion is the answer since it is run by the same self-interested, greedy, rich people James was criticizing in the first place.

mee @ 4:58 am #

I thank God for every day here and for my salvation..I really don’t know how to tell you how much i love Jesus but he’s always there for me then and now…:-))I have children so i can only hope they make the rite decision’s that if your honest, careing, and love for fellow human being’s that the same will be to you so love God, love life, because it is so very short and all will be given to you that ask…For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever ask SHALL be saved:-)))AMEN

Tisi @ 1:41 pm #

Mark = win. Religion rarely stops people from being greedy. There are greedy people in every religion. There are greedy atheists too. In times like these, people worry more about what will happen to them than helping others. Hell, if I was rich, I might buy a thing or 2 in case my money became worthless. But as long as I had enough to live without worrying too much, and could support loved ones, I’d go help people. The only really rich person I know that really does that is Bill Gates. He’s only (wow, “only”) leaving his kids with $1,000,000 each. (unless I misheard and it was a billion, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t). The rest gets donated to charities and schools.

Leah @ 2:13 pm #

I love how this pretty awesome post just got waaaaaaaaaay out of hand when someone says something about Jesus. I’m a christian also, but I’ll admit that we do have some pretty greedy “ministers of faith” out there… But I don’t let myself be bothered by their arsehole gadjets and do-dads. They’ll get what’s coming to them in the end. ^_^

By the way, again, very awesome post. I would like to take that cell phone and shove it up the “inventors” arse and say “do you hear me now1?!?!!?!?!?!?!!?!1/!?!” :P

And I bet that diamond encrusted bikini is EXTREMELY uncomfortable. I’m sure it’s not soft as silk…. and that’s right in the sensitive areas….

Holy moley(lololol) @ 4:24 pm #

ok well i enjoyed the post, al the religious mumbo jumbo gave me a headache, i think some people are just so blinded by religion that they fail to see sense. but lol at your mee comment. x

Oh and I’ve been to the Vatican myself. It truly does make you sick. I actually remember walking around the treasury room, look at all the sickly jewel encrusted gold crowns and staffs and thinking “I’ve just given them my money so I could look at their money… what was I thinking?”

if you fully upgrade the Mac Pro (buy it with all the possible features = highest RAM, best processor) you will get a whooping 24.800 €
that should be something about 35000$

you can try it at the Apple Online Store (just don’t click Buy and give your credit card number, you’ll be in trouble then :p)

and no… it’s not in gold….

it’s actually a good computer, so it’s worth its money, unlike that purse…

The irony of the Bugatti Veyron is that the company is selling them off for a loss. they cost well over a million to make each, the indicator switches alone are made from titanium costing $2,000 each! plus there only make a certain number of them then that’s it, no more

ok so religion, i just ‘stumbled’ onto this site, and felt compelled to say something.
mark, i understand your response to Christianity, i too took great pleasure in tearing into that particular religion, there are just so many obvious glaring issues, my personal favourite being the whole heaven/ hell absolute morality thing.
but over the years i have come to realize that there was something that i had been missing, that i refused to understand. faith.

dont dismiss the power that lies in recognizing something outside of yourself, of having the strength of faith. faith is about more than reasons and flaws and petty human corruptions. dont scoff at faith in any form, dont dismiss MEE’s prayer because of the faith it so obviously displayed, the faith that seems so childlike to you is what binds us all together, it does not matter how you choose to go about it, in order to create, to change, or just to believe that you live in a world where anything outside of yourself matters or even exists, it all takes faith, faith of that same laughable childlike simplicity.

“We have failed to break away from the ancient Jewish standard of the seven day week with five days of work, a nonsensical cult notion based on agricultural practices of the past!”

that was a fantastic post! i love this little factoid, totally agree that a meltdown is imminent, the system cannot last, our most fundamental priorities, (productivity, sex appeal) have been used up, a change is coming, there is a global almost Jungian awareness of it, its causing panic and chaos and and joy and anticipation. i’ve always regretted the age i had been born into, like most of you, dismissing it for its saturation, but no more, we sit on the cusp.. the times they are a changing!

i have friends with macbooks who say they crash, not like a pc, but still i have a g4 that has never ever given me any problems… ever. and i actually use it too! im worried that the success of the ipod and the pentium processor have somehow fucked with the apple mojo, that maybe the G5 was the last real mac. this isn’t founded on anything other than peoples macbooks crashing all around me, but im about to buy an imac, so guess il find out! either way, my trusty powerbook will always be there chugging along!

way to stay on topic people. If everyone practiced what they preach or believe in the world would, nay could be a better place. people will always be people. no matter what. no matter how much you “enlightened” or “intelligent” people will contest. so you know the history of the vatican or where “amen” comes from. cant you just be awed? cant you just take things as they are? you live for around 75 years and then you die. do you think it really matters after that what happens on this cesspool we call earth? you’d be dead, what do you care?
in the long run, ive only seen progresses in technology as more of a hampering to our own advancement as a culture and a species. take this list for example. millions of dollars for useless shit, plain shit. computers make us better people? fuck no. if anything, it makes us more dependant on things than on ourselves. comforts and convienence. hard work now is working 10 hours when it used to be 12 or more swinging a pick and shovel. manual labor has given way to pansy motherfuckers sitting behind a computer screen bitching about how much the world is shit and how religion is the basis for all societies ills. how about instead of this, EVERYONE go and do something productive. throw out your tv. ride a bike, walk. live in a one bedroom house. we dont need all this bullshit. NONE of it. TECHNOLOGY IS THE BANE OF HUMAN EXISTANCE. not an individual belief in a god that may or may not be there. wars are started for other reasons besides religion.
